Founder Biography

Demetra Jordan

Founder, President & CEO

Demetra Jordan brings more than 35 years of experience spanning early childhood education, human services, community outreach, and program development, with service in the United States and abroad. As Founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Star Witness Programs, she brings that commitment to the organization's work and the development of The Village Project.

Her professional journey began in child care while she was still a high school student. After earning an associate degree in Early Childhood Development, she worked as a teacher assistant in Galveston's Head Start program and later served as a lead pre-K teacher in Georgia. Those early experiences laid the foundation for a career that expanded into services for adults with developmental disabilities, child care licensing, family services, and leadership.

In Florida, Demetra served as a Residential Services Supervisor with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities and held counseling and supervisory roles with the Department of Children and Families, overseeing child care licensing operations across six counties. Her work has included educating providers, guiding staff, supporting safety and accountability, and helping people navigate challenging circumstances. She currently works in insurance claims.

Alongside her professional career, Demetra has organized community outreach and developed programs serving children and families in the United States and abroad. She received the Kwanza Award for giving back to the African-American community. A published author, educator, trainer, and licensed and ordained minister, she has also developed curricula, workshops, and online courses and led conferences and leadership gatherings through her community and ministry work.

Demetra holds a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management with a concentration in Elementary Education and a Master of Education with a concentration in Family and Community Development, in addition to her associate degree. Her belief that education opens doors continues to shape how she teaches, serves, and leads.

The Village Project draws together that lifetime of experience and her personal understanding of what stable housing can make possible. Her purpose remains rooted in helping individuals and families find support, recognize their potential, and have opportunities to build a stronger future.

A Message on Leadership

A Message from Our Founder, President & CEO

An Expression of Leadership, Faith & Renewed Purpose

When I founded Star Witness Programs, my heart was to help children and families have access to the support and opportunities they needed. That desire continues to guide my leadership today.

Over the years, I have learned that having a vision is only part of leading. You also have to listen, bring the right people together, make thoughtful decisions, and follow through. I believe a leader should be willing to do the work they ask of others and remain accountable to the people who are trusting them.

My faith guides me in that responsibility. I seek God’s direction, and I value the knowledge and experience of those who serve alongside me. I don’t believe I have to know everything. I do believe I have a responsibility to ask questions, keep learning, and make sure our decisions serve the people this organization exists to help.

That is how I am approaching The Village Project. We are working toward safe, stable housing and practical support for individuals and families. My responsibility is to help turn that vision into a plan we can carry out with care, sound judgment, and respect for every person involved.

IT TAKES A VILLAGE. As a leader, part of my work is helping people see where they fit in that village. Each person brings something valuable, and I want those who join us to know that their voice, their gifts, and their commitment matter.

I invite you to learn about our work and consider how you might be part of it. Together, we can help create places where people are treated with dignity, supported in their goals, and given an opportunity to thrive.

With faith and gratitude,

Demetra Jordan
